Dancing since the age of 3, Heather began her early dance life with tap and gymnastics classes at Markall’s School of Dance. During that time, began working towards Al Gilbert dance exams in tap, jazz and ballet. After 11 years with Markall’s and having completed all of the required exams in the three disciplines, she joined The Fay Gleeson Dance Centre, with some recreational classes, quickly moving into their competitive stream. After several years with Fay, she made a move to Winnipeg where she pursued different job opportunities and enjoyed new experiences but after two years, decided to move back to Thunder Bay, where she began teaching jazz and tap at Centrestage Dance Studio.
It was there that she began to train in the Canadian Dance Teacher’s Association Dance exams. Once completing many levels in ballet, tap and jazz, Heather travelled to Toronto and successfully completed her teacher’s exams with the CDTA. She came home and continued to teach young dancers the proper techniques of dance as well as helping to develop their posture and self confidence.
For the next 6 years, she taught at several local dance studios, including Studio One, Fay Gleeson Dance Centre and International Dance Academy, participating in various dance workshops and conventions locally and out of town.
Currently, Heather is the director of Dream Dance Company, teaching dancers from the ages of 6 and up in jazz, lyrical, tap and technique classes. Heather’s students have gone on to audition and successfully be accepted into the Royal Winnipeg Ballet School, the National Ballet School of Canada, Quinte ballet School and the dance program at George Brown College. They have competed in a variety of well-known, prestigious dance competitions and workshops across Canada and the United States and have received several top placements and outstanding awards locally and out of town.
